A New Project: The Tecnico Maya Vocational School Project
April 14, 2008
Long Way Home is ready to build a vocational school in San Juan Comalapa in collaboration with Escuela Tecnico Maya. Construction is scheduled to start immediately. The school will provide unique and useful training to students from elementary school through high school.

Parque Chimiya is Near Completion!

Long Way Home is happy to announce that Project Chimiya is nearing completion. We still need to do some of the finish work and build a nature trail, but the principal infastructure is complete.

Ribbon-cutting on the Basketball Court

Before and after. Thanks to the hard work of Aaron, Adam, Sam, Gabe, and Mateo and the staff of Chuwi Tinamit, the basketball court had its ribbon cutting on May 1st. The basketball court represents one of the largest projects at Chimiya and is a cornerstone of the Comapala Project. Come see the progress that has been made in all of our areas.

LWH Welcomes Two New Board Members: Matteo Arnold & Lars Battle

LWH has added two new members to the Board of Directors—Lars Battle and Mateo Arnold. The strength and long-term viability of the organization relies on the leadership of not only those on the ground but those behind the scenes, and the organization welcomes these two committed individuals.

I was greeted by Mateo, the director of the park, who has built the place up from the ground and the results speak inmediately: Mayan children run through the grounds, playing soccer, laughing and riding their bikes. They are clearly thrilled with the park and this is what made me most happy to be here: its evident right away what Mateo strives for and the work of the volunteers is greatly appreciated by the community.... more
