Lisa Massey, Director of Administration
Lisa has been doing administrative work from her Dallas office with Long Way Home since 2004.
Her administrative responsibilities include HR and stateside correspondence with:
- Donors
- Organizations
- Interns
- Volunteers
- In-country staff
Lisa is from Dallas, TX and has a B.A. in Religious Studies from Southern Methodist University. Lisa is currently enrolled
in an MBA Program at Marylhurst University with a concentration in non-profit management. She is also a research assistant
and volunteers for Children's Medical Center of Dallas.
Mark Luckhart, Project Consultant
Mark started his work with LWH in June 2009 and has provided invaluable engineering assistance.
His responsibilities include:
- Project research and design
- International promotion of LWH projects
Mark is from Minneapolis, Minnesota and has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from University of Minnesota.
He is currently leading a water project in Comalapa for Engineers Without Borders-Minnesota.
Matt "Mateo" Paneitz, Executive Director
Matt first came to Guatemala with Peace Corps in 2002, and was stationed in the town of Comalapa during his service.
His Peace Corps assignment was to help the local youth avoid drug and gang activity through clubs and other programs.
After two years in the Peace Corps, Matt returned to the United States to begin raising money for a new development
project inspired by the need he saw in Comalapa. He founded Long Way Home in the Fall of 2004, and returned to
Comalapa in January 2005 to launch Parque Chimiyá , the new organization's first project.
His responsibilities include:
- Managing LWH’s day to day in-country operations
- Main contact for in-counry volunteers and interns
- Promotion of LWH projects locally, nationally (Guatemala), and internationally
Hailing from Lufkin, TX, Matt has a degree in Emergency Medical Services and worked as a
paramedic for three years before joining the Peace Corps.
Matt's Reflections on Long Way Home
Adam Howland, Construction Manager
Adam joined the Peace Corps in 2002 and led construction projects in a rural Guatemalan village building stoves,
latrines, and water tanks for the next 3 years. Adam is one of the original Long Way Home volunteers, joining forces
with Matt when he first returned to Guatemala to start the organization at the beginning of 2005.
His construction responsibilities include:
- Research and Design
- Estimates and Project Budgets
- Building
Adam is from Upstate New York, where he received a degree in Construction in 2000. Adam worked as a mason/carpenter
for 6 years before joining Peace Corps.
Liz Howland, Construction Assistant
Liz arrived in Guatemala in 2003 as a Peace Corps volunteer and led an animals project in a small
Guatemala village. Since competing her PC service Liz has been an invaluable addition to our staff.
Her responsibilities include:

- Animal Husbandry
Liz is from Philadelphia and graduated from Bryn-Mayr University in 2001 with a degree in Psychology. She has also
volunteered for Heifer International.
Aaron Colvin, Construction Assistant
Aaron started work with LWH in September 2005 as the first intern. He then returned to work with LWH
in 2006 on the basketball court and EWB water project.
His responsibilities include:
- Construction
- Documentation
- Volunteer mentor
Aaron is from Bend, Oregon and has a B.A. in International Studies from Southern Oregon University. Aaron has also
volunteered with the Multicultural Association of Southern Oregon and worked for the YMCA.
Rebecca Sanchez, Volunteer Coordinator
Rebecca first traveled to Guatemala to work toward sustainable community development in October 2008
and is overjoyed to have found Long Way Home and Comalapa.
Her responsibilities include:
- Coordinating volunteers and interns
- Local community relations
- Writing for the LWH website and newsletter
- Construction
Rebecca was born in Phoenix, Arizona but has spent the later half of her life in Oregon. She received her B.A.
in Anthropology and Political Science from the University of Oregon and has worked for the Oregon State Museum as
an archaeological technician.
Andy "Andres" Case, Operations
Andy first came to Guatemala in October 2008 after working for the government and large contracting corporations
for a few years after graduation. His work with LWH was immediately recognized and can still be seen by our website.
Andy's responsibilities include:
- Information Systems
- Parque Chimiya Managment
- Equipment Repair
Andy was born and raised in Springfield, Oregon and received a B.S. in Geography from the University of Oregon.
Ericka Temple, Architectural Designer
Ericka has been working with Long Way Home since Feb 09, living in Comalapa for the majority of that time. She works on the design and construction of Long Way Home's green building projects, focusing on the Tecnico Maya Vocational School project.
Her responsibilities include:
- Design and planning
- Architectural drawings and documentation
- Construction
Ericka is from Newton, MA and received a Master's of Architecture from Syracuse University. She has also worked on school and museum projects at an architecture firm in Cambridge, MA.
Ben Smith, Construction Assistant
Ben has been working with Long Way Home since Feb 09 when he arrived with Matt and Aaron in a van full of donations
for the local firefighters. Ben returns to Comalapa to escape the Oregon winter in Ashland and assist with construction
of the school.
His responsibilities include:

- Lower Bodega
- Fundraising
Ben is from Los Angeles, CA where he was a real estate agent and morgatge broker. He currently lives in Ashland, OR.
Genevieve Croker, Operations
Genevieve came to Long Way Home in March of 2009 and quickly decided she wanted to become a permanent
part of the team. She focuses on internal and external communications and organizational structure.
Her responsibilities include:
- Fundraising
- Marketing
- Organizational Processes and Procedures
Genevieve holds a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management (MNpS) from Arizona State University and
spent five-and-a-half years helping to administer the Dorrance Scholarship Programs at the Arizona
Community Foundation. An Air Force brat, she comes Guatemala by way of New Hampshire, Virginia
(five times), Arkansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Minnesota, Maryland, California, Washington and Arizona.
