Long Way Home is undertaking a campaign to raise $40,000 by the end of 2010. These funds will allow LWH to complete Phase 1 of Técnico Maya and begin Phase 2, the primary school. They will cover the cost of materials, repair and maintenance of equipment, and salaries for ten local laborers and our staff of six. LWH will honor your gifts of $500 or more with recognition in a mural painted on the school grounds, your gift of $100 or more with an original rendering of Técnico Maya by a local artist, and your gift of any amount with acknowledgement on our website and at the school’s inauguration ceremony.

Gifts of all sizes add up to make a big difference; last year LWH was able to raise over $10,000 from gifts of $50 or less.

To get a better idea of just how far your gift will go in Guatemala, consider the following:

$15 buys two bags of cement
$30 pays for gas to pick up 100+ tires
$40 pays a laborer's salary for a week
$100 buys a complete set of tools (hoe, shovel, pick mattock, Leatherman)
$200 provides a 6-month bonus for one Guatemalan laborer
$500 purchases gravel for the foundation of a primary classroom
$3000 pays for the retaining wall below the 8 primary classrooms
$5000 sponsors the construction of a primary classroom

Long Way Home is committed to keeping administrative costs to a minimum to ensure that your contributions go toward construction materials, tools and wages for our local laborers.
